2010 been a fairly good year for dubstep… it’s now entered the mainstream finally and we’ve seen a stream of decent LPs from the scene’s DJ’s and producers, most notably Breakage’s superb ‘Foundation’.

Whilst the scene still has one foot rooted in the darker side of club music and electronica, Rusko’s “O.M.G.!” offers a breath of fresh air, lightening up the sound whilst keeping the speaker busting bass wobbles and off-kilter rhythm patterns that are synonymous with dubstep. On this album he offers a variety of other styles too, from old-school rave-y breakbeat to digi-dub, showing his flexibility and talent as as a producer and showing willing to push the boundaries. I was hoping this would be a cracker, and it is – I love it and it’s my favourite album of the summer by a long way.

What also caught my eye was the fact that it is a available from the Mad Decent site with two different T-shirts, one for the CD release and one for the double vinyl release for $25 and $33 respectively, which sounds like a good deal.

Apart from that Nokia ringtone that plagued the late 90s, there’s probably few things as irritating as the sound of a vuvuzela. It’s a word that has now entered everybody’s consciousness this summer as we enjoy the World Cup and hate it or love it, it probably won’t be going away any time soon.

‘I Love Acid’ T-shirt by Electric Sun… Available now!
Cast your mind back, if you can, to 1988 and the (second) ‘Summer of Love’. Illegal parties were being hosted in inconspicuous venues up and down the country and the headline-grabbing acid house phenomenon was everywhere. Drug use and police raids fuelled negative press coverage, but the psychedelic sound of acid house had a defining role in the development of electronic music and became a part of music history.

Rather than focusing on the narcotic, this Electric Sun T-shirt is dedicated to the machine that made it all possible over 20 years ago – the Roland TB-303. The unique squelchy sound of the 303 dominated the latter part of the 80′s club and rave culture, and still continues to appear on tracks to this day. As well as acid house, 303 basslines could also be heard on more radio-friendly tunes such as Shannon’s ‘Let the Music Play‘,

Augmented reality is popping up all over the place now and expect to see a lot more of it quite soon. It is when a computer generates imagery that is interacting in real-time with the user via camera/webcam, triggered by the movement of a sensor. Big corporations have started to use it in advertising and is an exciting way of making the consumer interact with a product.
