Big Boi – ‘You Ain’t No DJ’ video

Comment/Share

If you’re not familiar with Big Boi’s utterly superb, but randomly titled ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty’, then you may not have heard this yet. I’d like to say it’s one of the better tracks off the LP, but they’re all corkers… there are many potential singles, so maybe we’ll be seeing some more videos in the months to come. Let’s hope so.

Solar Bears – ‘She Was Coloured In’

Nice warm hazy psychedelic sounds from Solar Bears, this being the title track from their debut LP which will be released 20 September on the Planet Mu label.

Fatboy Slim vs Hervé – ‘Machines Can Do The Work’
I’m loving this track and the video… a welcome return for the sound of the 303.

Tron Legacy

Tron Legacy title   Tron Legacy: Lightcycle   Tron Legacy poster

Disney are to remake the 1982 classic, Tron. A difficult one to beat, as the original was years ahead of its time, using a stylish mix of CGI and real actors. It also tapped into an era when computers and video arcade games were becoming commonplace and were a hint of the future technology.
The new version, Tron ‘Legacy’ probably won’t be as ground-breaking, but is guaranteed to be a visual spectacle. Unfortunately, there will be an agonising wait until December this year to see it in 3-D on the big screen.
Watch the trailer on YouTube (embedding wasn’t allowed) and check out the official Tron Legacy page on Disney’s site.

The Persuasionists

The Persuasionists
Episode 1: ‘Cockney Cheese’

Episode 2: ‘The Head of Handsomeness’

Episode 3: ‘The Charity’

There’s a fantastic new sitcom, ‘The Persuasionists‘, showing at the moment on BBC2. With the original working title of ‘The Scum Also Rises’, it is based in an advertising agency called HHH&H and follows a team of creatives and account managers trying to convince their clients that their designs are amazing. Sound familiar? Three episodes have been aired so far (iPlayer links above if you’ve missed them) and is shown on Wednesday, 22:00 on BBC2. They won’t be around on the iPlayer forever, so well worth recording on Sky+.

Stylophone Beatbox

'Stylophone Beatbox   'Stylophone Beatbox video.

These have been around a few months now, but have only just come to my attention (bit slow). Modeled on the retro classic ‘Rolf Harris’ Stylophone, this is a mini drum machine which has three different sounds; beatbox (with sounds recorded from beatboxer called MC Zani, apparently), drums and Stylophone bass. Those sounds are controlled by the 13 keys (or pads) with the use of the stylus, just like the original.

There’s also a hilarious video showcasing the this machine (linked above right), featuring former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, Brett Domino. Along with his friend, he cranks out Yorkshire-flavoured megamix of hip-hop classics. Proper Bo, I tell thee.

Gold’s just around the corner…

Stone Roses – Fool’s Gold
I’ve added this simply because it’s one of my favourite tunes, ever. It’s been remixed loads of times, as most classic tunes do, but nothing beats sheer Manc grooviness of the original 9:53 version.

Kraftwerk – Musique Non Stop
Rightfully hailed the Godfathers of Techno, they pioneered an exciting new sound through the 70′s and 80′s that was literally decades ahead of it’s time. I remember hearing ‘Tour De France’ in the early 80′s though electro/breakdance tapes and it blew me away – this track is from 1986. There is better version on ‘The Mix’ LP, I remember Justin Robertson playing it on a big sound system at the Manchester Academy. Ace!
